🚨🏈 CFL Week 3 best bets
Evening folks,
We’re coming off a tough push in Week 2 that brought our CFL record to 1-0-1 on the season, but we’ve got another one ready to fire off in Week 3.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers -3.0 (@ B.C. Lions) x 1 unit
This game is being played on Saturday, June 21, @ 6 p.m. CT.
This is a rematch of last week’s contest, only this time it’s taking place on the West Coast instead of the prairies.
The Bombers made a statement in a convincing 34-20 victory in Week 2, winning despite being without their No. 1 quarterback and, for most of the game, their top running back.
The offence continued to operate seamlessly, while the defence, despite giving up a couple of explosive plays in the second half, made life a living hell for Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke.
Speaking of Rourke, he’s why we’re taking Winnipeg in this spot. The pivot got banged up in the fourth quarter last week, suffering an oblique injury that kept him on the sideline for the last few drives.
Rourke has been listed as day-to-day while logging limited practices all week. My gut tells me he won’t play. It’s early, and there’s no reason for the Lions to rush him back.
And even if he does play, I have a hard time believing he’ll be able to put as much power behind his throws.
On Winnipeg’s side, running back Brady Oliveria is unlikely to play, but that’s ok. Rookie Matthew Peterson showed last week he’s more than capable of leading a backfield, and they’ll also elevate fellow rookie Quinton Cooley — who impressed in preseason — from the practice roster.
While the Lions quarterback could be down, the Bombers’ starting quarterback, Zach Collaros, is set to make his anticipated 2025 debut after serving a one-game suspension.
While backup Chris Streveler performed admirably last week, this offence can find a different gear with Collaros at the helm. Whether it’s Rourke or backup Jeremiah Masoli starting for B.C., I just have a hard time believing they’ll be able to keep up with Winnipeg again.
As a side note: Rourke is 0-5 for his career against Winnipeg. This has to be in his head at this point.
Going road chalk is always tough, but I feel comfortable in this spot with a veteran Winnipeg squad.
Good luck! 🍀
