Our fourth futures

Good morning,

We’ll be taping our full NFL futures episode next week, so keep your eyes peeled for that on YouTube.

We will be sending out more futures plays this week so that our newsletter subscribers get the first look at what we’ll have on our card this season.

Baker Mayfield over 3,599.5 passing yards (+100) x 1.5 units

We are buying into what should be a fruitful offensive campaign for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by offensive co-ordinator Zac Robinson, who is a big upgrade over Josh Grizzard.

Robinson is quietly one of the more pass-heavy offensive play-callers in the league, boasting a 55.81% pass rate in neutral game scripts and a 59.25% pass rate overall.

Even a very limited Kirk Cousins tossed for 3,508 yards in 14 games in 2024 under Robinson’s play-calling.

Robinson also recruited former Indiana Hoosiers QB coach Chandler Whitmer to serve in the same role in Tampa Bay. Whitmer has notably worked with Kirk Cousins, Justin Herbert and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, and is on a rocket-ship trajectory up the coaching ranks.

He figures to be a huge boon for Mayfield.

The continuity in the personnel is equally exciting, as Mayfield will primarily be throwing to a veteran receiving corps of Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka and Jalen McMillan. The addition of pass-catching RB Kenny Gainwell doesn’t hurt either.

Mayfield dealt with a litany of injuries last season, many of which severely hampered his play after Week 6. Mayfield was on pace for 4,360 passing yards from Weeks 1-6. It also didn’t help that his leading receiver, Egbuka, suffered a hamstring injury in Week 6 that hampered his rookie season.

Finally, the Buccaneers’ defence leaves a lot to be desired. We suspect the Bucs will be in plenty of track meets this season, which only bodes well for Mayfield eclipsing this number.

Good luck 🍀
